SUGAR RUSH

AHHHHH!!!

WHY IS SUGAR SO ADDICTING!

A little over a week ago I met with a personal trainer. I told him my goals of becoming a leaner version of myself. He kindly told me what I needed to do in order to meet those goals. Simply put, I must eliminate SUGAR, SIMPLE CARBOHYDRATES, DAIRY and PASTA from my diet. Yes, I did nearly faint when he mentioned this, but when he told my why I needed to do this, I was able shake the shock from my face and listen intently.

t

Sugar... is messed up stuff! And unfortunately for us, it's in nearly EVERYTHING we consume.

1. It raises the insulin level in your blood. "Why is that bad, Jessica?" you ask... well, raised blood insulin levels literally depress the immune system. If your immune system is depressed then your ability to fight disease is weakened. ALSO, raised blood insulin levels can cause weight gain. Insulin promotes the storage of fat (it's just cheering it on..."store fat!! store fat! GO GO GO!"). So, when we eat foods high in refined sugar, we increase fat storage... especially around the belly and thighs for us women. Obviously, the result is rapid weight gain. Yep, I said RAPID!

2. And get this... SUGAR has no nutritional value whatsoever (unless added) and it digests QUICKLY into your bloostream therefore catagorizing it as a DRUG. And like all other drugs, it is HIGHLY addictive. This is why, when we have a little sugar, soon enough we need some more.

For example: Last night, I was at a family game night with my boyfriend's extended family. We were having a darling time. The family had Dove chocolates on display in their kitchen... sitting there on the island whispering to me like an a magical Alice in Wonderland treat "eat me!!". I shrugged and thought "Well, I have been staying away from sugar for a while now. One little chocolate won't hurt, right?!" WRONG. Throughout the remainder of the night, I'm sure I had 6 to 10 more pieces. And by piece 3, I didn't even WANT to eat any more, I just liked the way it felt in my mouth and just kept popping them in! I had one.... and then I needed another quick fix. So, basically I should be saying, "Hi, my name is Jessica and I'm a refined sugar addict!".

When I woke up this morning, I thought about my bout with that sensuously evil sugar culprit and discussed with myself, "You screwed up! So, your self control was conquered by a little dark chocolate. So, you messed up. GET OVER IT and move on! Figure out how last night's events will never happen again!" An aid to my solution is what you're reading now... a BLOG! I figured, if I could voice my frustrations with the world as I wean myself off the digestible devils, I'd have a chance at overcoming this fascination/addiction/adoration for that sweet taste that makes me go gaga.

Also, I've decided to ditch the whole "no sugar diet" concept and call this my "No Sugar LIFESTYLE". It's more definitive and more hopeful!

So, as of right now, 1:45pm on Sunday May 16th, I will try my very best to live out a no sugar lifestyle! But I'll just start with today for now.

Feel free to share your opinions, comments, struggles and/or victories!!!
